Summary Draft 2 (Solar Panel)

Ash’s article “Floating Solar Panel” (2022) educates the readers about the pieces of equipment, features, and functions of a floating solar panel system. “Floating solar panels are PV modules mounted on platforms that float on water reservoirs, lakes, and where conditions are right seas and oceans” (Ash, 2022). Photovoltaics or floating photovoltaics are the alternate names for floating solar. It describes any solar array that floats above the water. Solar panels are attached to buoyant constructions, which keeps them floating on the water's surface. Floating solar integrates maritime and renewable energy technology. The PV cells of a solar panel absorb energy from the sunlight as the sun shines on it. Through underwater wires, these floating solar panels transmit electricity to a transmission tower. The solar panel system is made up of a solar module, anti-rust material, vertical and horizontal frames, a buoyancy body, inspection footrest, and module mount assembly. The solar modu...

Summary Draft 1 (Solar Panel)

According to the article by Team ProductLine (2019), both home and commercial lighting uses solar light panels. Photovoltaic (PV) modules are used to create solar light panels. These PV modules typically have top-tier crystalline silicon solar cells. PV cells convert solar light energy into electrical energy that can be used immediately or stored for use later. Numerous solar (or photovoltaic) cells make up a solar light panel system, which may or may not be connected to the main electricity grid. If the system is connected to the grid, a power conditioning unit converts the DC electricity produced by the PV panels into AC power.  Depending on the equipment installed in the area, the power generated is added to a 220V single-phase line grid or an 11 kV three-phase line grid. Lighting systems are run on the power produced throughout the day. Depending on its availability, the extra power is fed into the grid. A backup system for a non-grid solar lighting system is required, consisti...

Letter of Introduction

Dear Prof Brad, My name is Benjamin Chia, and I am writing to introduce myself to you as a student in your communication class. I graduated from Temasek Polytechnic with a diploma in mechatronics engineering. I chose to enroll in the  Singapore Institute of Technology because it offers its own applied degree programs with a unique pedagogy that integrates work and study, providing students with the opportunity to undertake real work, and apply the theories I learn in class with actual practice. SIT also offers industry-focused degree programs targeted at growth sectors of the economy and is in partnership with world-class universities. I decided to join the mechanical engineering program to develop my technical skills. My goal is to work in the automation industry because  I enjoy programming, testing, and problem-solving . M echanical engineers can operate in the automation sector, and they are essential to the success of automation. Mechanical engineers may desig...

Reaction to “Critical Thinking: The Soul of Communication”

Communication in the workplace is important and I feel like it will impact me as a leader because with good communication, it will boost employee morale, improves productivity, improves teamwork, and resolves any issues that arise.  Leading a team with good relationship will drive better results and we will be working longer-term and for many years to come, driving innovation.  Critical thinking will always be relevant no matter your profession as it promotes creativity, and it is the key for a good leader.  For a society to evolve, we must establish opinions right and wrongs by using critical thinking. Ability to think reasonably, backed by evidence and logic instead of personal bias, subjective opinions, and ego. For example, a combat medic analyses the injured soldiers and decides the order by which the patients should be treated, or worst case put to rest as the injuries he have sustain is too serious and deemed unsavable. Paraphase of Professional Quote

“Employers identify communication as one of the basic competencies every graduate should have, asserting that the ability to communicate is valuable for obtaining employment and maintaining successful job performance.” Sherwyn Morreale, Michael Osborn & Judy Pearson, Professors of Communication (2000)   Employers’ values communication skills because it is essential in workplaces to enhance productivity, efficiency, and performance.
